Crema Marfil Marble

Crema Marfil marble is a uniquely warm-toned stone. A beige marble with a soft, creamy colour, it is patterned with delicate veins and grains in subtle shades of yellow, cinnamon, white and gold. Like many marbles, Crema Marfil is actually a limestone and is quarried around Mount Coto in Valencia, Spain, not far from the Riluxa factory, making it a local material that meets our sustainability values. For centuries it has been used for elegant palatial and civic architecture, but today it is prized in the most design-conscious homes, on feature walls, tiles, flooring and, of course, in the bathroom.

Crema Marfil marble’s warm yet pale finish makes it a versatile alternative to cool white marble and its high luminosity levels mean that when polished, this cream marble glows like no other. In addition to its good looks and silky feel, it boasts a host of other winning qualities. With proper sealing, it’s durable and water-resistant, which is why at Riluxa we love using it for baths, washbasins, shower trays and countertops. It’s also easy to clean and it won’t discolour, which means its mellow tones and patterns remain beautifully unchanged throughout its long lifetime.

Finishes

Once you’ve settled on Carrara marble for your bathroom, we can offer a range of finishes.

A glossy highly reflective surface, resulting in a supremely refined surface. A polished marble is the least porous finish, giving your piece additional protection from staining. This finish is most often used with Crema Marfil, as polishing this beige marble produces a spectacular mirror-like effect.

A honed finish has a satin-like feel that is velvety and smooth to the touch. This finish brings out the full character of the stone, while softening its colour. As it is more porous, it requires more frequent sealing than a polished piece, but it is also more resistant to scratches and excellent at masking etches.

A common decorative technique used with Crema Marfil marble is that of book-matching. This is where a single block of marble is cut into two or more slabs, each being polished. We then place the slabs end to end, so that their veining creates a mirror image, continuing from one slab to the next in a continuous flow.

All varieties of onyx marble have translucent portions in each slab. By experimenting with the finish and the lighting source, it’s possible to achieve breathtaking backlit onyx effects.
