We won’t stand still on our journey towards a sustainable future. Sustainability is a value across our entire company, and we are committed to making beautiful, durable furniture with the least possible impact on the environment. It’s a complex and evolving challenge that reaches into every corner of what we do, but as a leader in our industry, we don’t flinch from tough tasks that lead to meaningful change. Sustainability is our ongoing mission and we stand proudly behind it.

We take an Eco Design approach, which means looking continually at how we design, manufacture and deliver our high-end bathroom furniture, to reduce environmental impacts at each stage of a product’s lifecycle.

We use high-quality, sustainable materials and energy efficient manufacturing methods, and our luxury bathroom furniture is built to last. Forget fast fashion. Combining beauty with durability has always been our passion. Buy less, buy better is our mantra.

Local Production

Our commitment to local production has been at the heart of our approach since day one. We embrace beautiful raw materials from around the world, such as Carrara marble from Italy, while ensuring that each component –  from our hinges and wood finishes to our steel hanging brackets and drawer runners – begins life in Europe.

Every piece of furniture we make to measure is created by our skilled artisans here in Valencia, Spain and our warehouse and factories are a short distance from each other. It’s all local. We’re dedicated to expanding local production for all new product categories, including wall coverings and home furniture.

Energy Efficiency

We recognise that industry plays a crucial role in the transition to a low-carbon economy. At Riluxa, we are committed to specific, measurable actions to establish a sustainable development model. We aim to use energy resources responsibly, ensuring that future generations are not harmed by the over-exploitation of natural resources.

To maximise energy efficiency in a rapidly changing environment, we schedule our most energy-intensive tasks, such as carving marble bathtubs, outside of peak demand hours. This approach reduces the need for additional power plants that often rely on carbon-intensive fossil fuels. When market conditions shift, we adapt by moving our energy-intensive production to daytime hours, when cleaner, renewable energy sources are more prevalent.

We want how we work, not just what we produce, to be sustainable. So we’re improving the carbon footprint of our office by providing recycling facilities and eliminating single-use plastics. In our factories, we’re increasing our renewable energy share and reducing water and electricity use. We are also proud to say that 95% of our office employees come to work by bicycle, public transport or on foot. Once here, they can snack on the sustainably packaged, local seasonal fruits that we happily provide.

Lots of expertise, care and love goes into our luxury bathroom furniture, so it’s vital we protect it from unnecessary and wasteful damage when it’s travelling to you, but packaging also creates waste. Our solution is to use sustainable materials. Our baths are packaged in cardboard and wooden crates and soon 95% of the cardboard we use will be recycled. We are working toward replacing all our internal inflatable packing (already 100% recyclable) with superior reinforced cardboard.

We use recycled palettes as much as possible, too. We are constantly exploring and trialling new solutions such as compostable mushroom packaging. Check our blog for the results of these trials – we’re always eager to share our findings on innovative sustainability breakthroughs.

Logistics

As an online-only business, how we get our beautiful bathroom products from our warehouses to your home is a major consideration. To understand its environmental impacts, we put our delivery strategy under the microscope, looking at all the countries we deliver to and identifying the busiest destinations in each one. Now, with cross-docking, we can bundle orders and deliver to consolidation centers in key dispatch cities. As a result, we halved the number of shipments made despite a significant increase in overall sales volume. This efficient approach has also reduced breakages, since products now pass through fewer hands to reach you. Less breakages means less waste – another sustainability win.
