A Deceptively Simply Harmony in a New-Build Home

Striking the right balance between contemporary minimalism and a cosy and warm aesthetic is a difficult feat to pull off. But that’s what Riluxa client Christophe Pollin, has managed not once, but twice, in the two bathrooms of his new build project in France.

The main bathroom’s white and grey colour palette with sleek minimalist fixtures give it a distinctly light and modern appearance. But combined with the soft velvety texture of the stone tile, it becomes a cosy and inviting space.

In contrast, the second bathroom sees contemporary styling in a dark and intimate interior. But once again, the choice of tile is key to the softness of this space. Its appealing texture and earthy tones complement the earthiness of the solid oak bathroom cabinet, also reflected in the hardwood flooring. And the extra-length Corian washbasin ensures this room is both functional and beautiful, perfect for a couple or a family!

Tell us a little bit about yourself - are you a homeowner or a design professional, and where do you live?

I’m a Real Estate professional working in the Dax region with the SAFTI real estate agency. I recently built my home on the Landes Coast in the southwest of France, an area known for surfing and beach activities. My main focus was to design bathrooms for this house that fit today’s needs and way of life.

Tell us about your bathroom project—was it a renovation or did you start from scratch?

I started completely from scratch because the project was a new build home including two bathrooms.

Tell us the story of your Riluxa relationship – how you found us and what your experience has been?

Well, when I got to know Riluxa online I was impressed by the contemporary style of the products and pleased to see that they fit within the budget I had set. When I contacted the team, I was very well-received and I felt the advice was excellent. This gave me the confidence to undertake the project together and use Riluxa products throughout both bathrooms.

What Riluxa pieces did you use in your project?

As I said, I chose almost everything I needed for both bathrooms from Riluxa.

In the main bathroom I chose a Bruges freestanding bathtub, and combined this with a freestanding storage cabinet and a separate Corian® washbasin, all in white.

In the second bathroom, I used a large sink in Corian® Deep Nocturne, over a solid oak 2-drawer unit. And all the taps I used also came from Riluxa, for the bathtub and the sinks.

And what attracted you to those pieces?

The products were exactly what I had been looking for in terms of their beautiful and contemporary style and their value for money.

What design style was guiding your project?

Each bathroom project is quite distinct but in both cases I wanted to create a look that was modern and chic, but also warm and inviting.

Tell us how you feel about your project now that it's finished:

I’m delighted that the project turned out exactly as I had hoped. And I receive tons of compliments from people who’ve seen the finished bathrooms.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? Do you have any advice for future Riluxa customers wanting to create their dream bathroom?

I recommend using the principle of harmony when composing a room. When all the elements of a design feel like they fit together, it creates a sense of cohesion in a space. Try to combine complementary colours and materials to build a calm and relaxing space. Furniture choices are obviously important but a unified aesthetic even more so. Your pieces will look like they belong and be given the opportunity to shine.
